Lehigh Hanson Inc. announced that four of its Lehigh Cement plants have earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star certification for 2014. The company’s cement manufacturing plants in Leeds, Ala.; Union Bridge, Md.; Glens Falls, N.Y.; and Redding, Calif., all perform within the top 25 percent of cement plants nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.
“At Lehigh Hanson, we are committed to operating in a safe and environmentally responsible manner,” said Dan Harrington, president and CEO. “The superior energy management efforts at the Leeds, Union Bridge, Glens Falls and Redding cement manufacturing facilities are a clear reflection of this commitment. We are extremely proud of these four plants and pleased that our ongoing efforts are recognized by the EPA.”
Earning the Energy Star certification at these four cement plants is just one example of Lehigh Hanson’s industry leadership in reducing the impact of its operations on the environment. The company has operational efficiency programs in place across all its business lines and strict energy management is a priority at its manufacturing sites across North America. It is an Energy Star corporate partner and also has the unique distinction of being the only aggregates producer to have four of its crushed stone plants achieve the EPA’s Energy Star Challenge for Industry.
